One interesting fact about you: I technically have 8 siblings, soon to be 9.

Q&A with Amira

  • What are your favorite things about being in this major?
    • I like the faculty, especially Dr. Trejos and Dr. Arroyo. They’ve helped establish classification standards for evidence and have so much experience in the field.
  • What is the most interesting thing about your major?
    • It’s so chemistry oriented, even down to the different tracks/disciplines.
  • Why did you want to pursue this major?
    • I’m a true crime junkie and have always had a love for chemistry. It’s fate to put them together.
  • How have your professors and/or staff helped you be successful?
    • They’ve helped guide me on the right track, explain what I’ll be doing in the job, and they have helped me network.
  • What skills and/or knowledge have you gained that you feel will help you be successful in your future career?
    • I’ve learned the different types of evidence. I have also learned how to do instrumentation analysis and how to use the different programs.
  • What are your career goals?
    • Once graduated I would like to work in a private or state toxicology lab or teach high school chemistry.
  • What is your favorite place on campus?
    • Either the Lair or my Sorority House.
  • What is your most memorable moment at WVU?
    • My most memorable moment has been being an honors mentor to the honors freshman.
  • What is your favorite class and why?
    • My favorite class is Trace Evidence because of hands-on work and because Dr. Trejos is a wonderful professor.
  • What experience or class taught you the most?
    • Organic Chemistry 2 because if you can get through, you can roll with the punches and get through anything else.
  • Why did you choose WVU?
    • I fell in love with the campus. It was the perfect size, and I chose based on major.
  • What advice would you give to an incoming student in the same major?
    • Your first two years will be rough, but when you get past it, you’ll love it and won’t forget it.
