WVU FIS Named One of the Most Innovative University Forensics Labs in 2025

The West Virginia University's Forensic and Investigative Science Department has been recognized by ForensicsColleges.com as one of the Five Most Innovative University Forensics Labs in the U.S. in 2025!

Within our department, we cultivate strong professional relationships across the forensic science community and remain focused on the future of the field through advanced instrumentation, hands-on laboratory work, and research. Our students are equipped with high-level skills and training designed to make a real-world impact in their communities. The Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry majors are laboratory-intensive, preparing students for careers in local, state, federal, and private laboratories. Forensic Examiners interested in pattern evidence analysis - such as fingerprint and firearm examination - have specialized coursework providing direct preparation for these specific career paths. Utilizing our state-of-the-art facilities, including the Oglebay Hall Labs, the Crime Scene Complex, and the Ballistics Facility, students gain extensive hands-on experience, ensuring they are well-prepared for success in their chosen forensic careers.
