Dr. Michelle Miranda to present at WVU's FIS Department

Dr. Michelle Miranda will present on The Sydney Declaration and Its Principles on March 23rd, 2026.

Professor Miranda is the Director of the Center for Criminal Justice Studies at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science concentration, from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York and an M.S. in Forensic Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY). Dr. Miranda is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC-GKE) and is a Fellow of the Criminalistics Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). Prior to entering academia, she worked as a Criminalist in the Trace Evidence Analysis Unit of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Police Lab. Dr. Miranda is a generalist forensic scientist, and her research interests include the history and philosophy of forensic science, detection and investigation, analytical spectroscopy and emerging technologies in the criminal justice domain. She is the author of the book Forensic Analysis of Tattoos and Tattoo Inks (CRC Press, 2012).
