Cold Case Research Highlighted in Maryland Homicide Case

More than 40 years ago, Joan Ann Charlton was found stabbed to death on her college campus in Frostburg, Maryland. Although there were suspects, they never panned out and the case went cold.

In more recent years, Maryland State Police provided case files to the West Virginia University Forensic and Investigative Science "Unsolved Case Project." The research group led by assistant professor Tiffany Edwards digitized paper files, visited the college campus, brought new perspectives, and completed additional work to aid investigators who will review the case in the future.
