WVU’s First Online Forensic Graduate Symposium Shaping Forensic Science: Emerging Trends in Research

This Spring 2020, the Department of Forensic and Investigative Science’s Graduate Seminar Class organized the First Forensic Graduate Symposium. The student’s selected theme, “Shaping Forensic Science: Emerging Trends in Research,” reflects their passion and commitment to lead the way, as future forensic scientist generations.

This symposium will provide a unique forum to discuss the impact and diversity of our research and discover new routes of collaboration between WVU and our regional forensic practitioners, academia, and industry.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the symposium has been changed to an online platform. This event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the students on their different organizing committees’ roles, the faculty, and administration. Everyone came together and adjusted quickly to the challenging times.

This is a good opportunity for forensic examiners, prospective students, faculty and researchers to learn more about forensic graduate research at WVU.

The online symposium will take place Friday, May 1st, 2020, using the Zoom online platform. The event will take place in two sessions:
1.     MORNING SESSION (9:00 am to 11:40 am)
The morning session will host guest presentations given by Andria Mehltretter from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Johannes Soons from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Also, our senior doctoral students will give oral presentations.

2.     AFTERNOON SESSION (12:30 to 4:00 pm)
The afternoon session will include e-Poster presentations on research findings and proposed projects given by our Masters’ students and junior doctoral students.

There is no cost to participate, but advanced RSVP is required. Participation certificates will be provided to attendees. If you would like to attend one or both of the sessions, please register here.
