2022 WVU Forensic Science Summer Camp

What is the Forensic Science Summer Camp?

The Next Generation Forensic Science Initiative in collaboration with the Department of Forensic and Investigative Science at West Virginia University will be hosting its annual forensic science summer camp for high school students (9th – 12th grade).

Through both conceptual and experiential learning students will acquire the practical knowledge and skills that forensic scientists utilize in their day-to-day casework. At the conclusion of the week, students will apply what they have learned to mock crime scenes at the Crime Scene Training Complex.

What is the curriculum for the summer camp?

The tentative educational sessions include the following topics:
  • Death Investigation
  • Forensic Biology
  • Forensic Chemistry
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
  • Mock Crime Scenes
  • And more

When and where is the 2023 summer camp?

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.

Students will attend sessions at Oglebay Hall (downtown campus), the Crime Scene Training Complex (Evansdale campus), and the Law School (Evansdale campus).

Do you provide airport transportation?

Yes, the airport for pick-up/drop-off is the Pittsburgh International Airport (Pittsburgh, PA) on the day (Sunday) before camp starts. 

When is check-in/check-out for 2023 overnight campers?

Times will be arranged but are normally scheduled earlier in the day.

Overnight campers may choose to be picked up after the last session on Friday (prior arrangements are required).

What are the camp options and registration fees?

Option #1 - Day Camp
Cost: TBD
Includes lunch each day, a camp T-shirt, and certificate of attendance.
Option #2 - Overnight Camp
Cost: TBD
Includes transportation to/from the airport (if needed), six nights supervised lodging, evening activities, breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day, a t-shirt, and a certificate of attendance.

This does not include airfare or any other transportation costs other than what has been described.

How do I register and secure a space in the summer camp?

Our 2022 summer camps are FULL. Please find the interest form link for our 2023 summer camp at the top and bottom of this page.

*Please note that you will be directed to the online payment system once you submit the initial registration form. 
For best experience, it is recommended to complete the registration on a desktop/laptop.

To secure a space in the camp, you need to complete two steps:

1) The initial registration form.
2) The registration fee payment.
*You will receive receipts for both via email.
