Admission Requirements
These are derived from WVU graduate program requirements, FEPAC accreditation guidelines, competing programs, and feedback from forensic science professionals:
Bachelor’s degree in natural science, forensic science, or equivalent to include:
- One year of Fundamentals of Chemistry (inclusive of laboratories)
- One year of Organic Chemistry (inclusive of laboratories)
- One year of Biology (inclusive of laboratories)
- One year of Physics (inclusive of laboratories)
- One year of Calculus
- GRE with at least 1000 (must have been taken within the last 5 years)
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
- Writing sample: Peer reviewed publication where the applicant was the lead author (of at most 3 authors), -or- a 5 page essay (1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman 12 point font) entitled “DNA will replace trace evidence as a technique in forensic science” or an alternative title.
- Two letters of recommendation.
Upon receipt and evaluation of application package, suitable candidates will be invited for a final interview with the graduate committee. In certain cases the graduate committee may waive the GPA and GRE requirements.
All applications will be due April 1 for the fall semester, and by September 1 for the spring semester. Students are required to pay a non-refundable admission fee of $50.
